The idea of 'Christmas and Company' came about when David and Dawn Howard from Howden decided they'd like to do something for people who might be spending Christmas Day 'Home Alone.'
The event will be hosted at Howden Shire Hall and several local businesses have already offered valuable support.
The aim is to serve a three course Christmas dinner for a maximum of 60 people, allowing folk who might otherwise be sat on their own, on what should be one of the happiest days of the year, to have a chat, share a few laughs and enjoy some 'Company at Christmas.'
However the organisers will need help! If you like the idea and feel like doing something a bit different over the Christmas period they will need assistance with:
Alternatively you might be able to help in advance by baking an extra dozen mince pies or some other Christmas treat to help the party along - or make some christmas decorations, supply some home made wine ... in fact, whatever you can think of!
So if you are dreading Christmas day on your own then think about coming along - either as a guest or maybe as a helper! If you have neighbour, workmate or friend who you think might like to come along please tell them about it too!
The organisers don't want to exclude anyone who simply can't afford to come along, so rather than charge a fixed ticket price they are suggesting a minimum donation of £5 to cover food costs and whatever else anyone would like to give. Tickets will be on sale from early December via Touchwood Homecare in Howden and at Howden Shire Hall Box Office.
The aim is to simply break even with any surplus donated to the Humberside and East Yorkshire branch of MIND, the mental health charity.
